What does this mean for e-commerce?

From 2025, significant changes have come into effect in the TEÁOR classification of e-commerce.
The previously unified "47.91 Mail Order and Internet Retail" code has been discontinued, and instead, webshops must classify their activities based on the product categories they sell.
In this blog post, we provide a detailed overview of these changes and what you need to do if you own an online store.

Why is this change happening?

The goal is to improve statistical data collection and create a more transparent categorization of e-commerce.
The previous "47.91" code did not differentiate between various product categories, making market analysis and statistical reporting more difficult.

Actions for Affected Webshops:

  1. Select a New TEÁOR Code!
  • The new TEÁOR’25 classification system helps identify which code corresponds to the previously used "47.91" code. The translation key and code search tool available on the KSH website will assist you with this.

For example:

  • Webshops selling electronic products have been assigned a new TEÁOR code.
  • Online stores selling clothing products have been placed in a different classification.
  1. Request for data modification to the NAV!
  • The reclassification may happen automatically, but businesses must verify their new codes. If they disagree with the automatically assigned classification, they can request a modification from the NAV until July 1, 2025.
  1. Lawful reporting of activities!
  • Webshops required to register their company can report their new activities using the 25T201T form.
  • Sole proprietors can do the same through the Webes Ügysegéd online platform.

Important deadlines

  • January 1, 2025 – The new TEÁOR system comes into effect.
  • July 1, 2025 – Deadline for reclassification modifications.
  • August 31, 2025 – Final closure of old codes.

Practical Example of the Transition:

Let's suppose a webshop manufactures electronic components and also partially produces and sells office paper products. Previously, using the "47.91" code was sufficient, but under the new system, separate codes must be assigned:

  • For electronic components, the appropriate code is "26.11".
  • For office paper products, the appropriate category could be "17.23".

The business must report two separate activity codes and include them in the company documentation as well.

Where can I find more information?

Detailed information about the new TEÁOR’25 system, the translation key, and the code search tool can be found on the official KSH website.

It is important to stay informed in time so you can handle the transition smoothly.

The introduction of the new TEÁOR system aims to enhance transparency and improve statistical data collection. It is crucial for e-commerce businesses to prepare for these changes in time to comply with the new requirements.

Prepare in time, review your business activities, and align them with the new regulations!
